Frugal AI Workshop with the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST)

On 24 February 2026, Smart Service Engineering department, DFKI led by Prof. Wolfgang Maaß and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) held a joint workshop in Saarbrücken on resource-aware, robust and sustainable AI, agreeing on joint publications and funding proposals as next steps.

On 24 February 2026, the joint Frugal AI workshop of Smart Service Engineering (DFKI) and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) took place in Saarbrücken.

The aim of the workshop was to consolidate key research questions around resource-aware, robust and sustainable AI and to develop shared perspectives for future collaboration. In thematic breakout sessions, the participants discussed approaches to data- and model-centric efficiency, multimodal representations, and frugality-by-design and its operationalization, among other topics. As next steps, the participants agreed to prepare joint scientific publications and to develop joint funding proposals.
