The Chair of Business Informatics at Saarland University and the research department Smart Service Engineering at the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), led by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Maaß, investigate how articial intelligence technologies can be used for adaptive service designs and innovative business solutions. In collaboration with research and industrial partners, results are applied in domains such as industrial manufacturing, crisis management, healthcare, wellness, and sports, among others.
Our research projects encompass both foundational and applied research in artificial intelligence, data science, machine learning, and information systems. Collaborating with esteemed research institutions and industrial partners, we address complex challenges and pioneer innovative solutions.
Funding for our initiatives comes from prominent organizations such as the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), the European Union, and industry stakeholders.
Our findings are showcased at leading AI and computer science conferences, including IJCAI, NeurIPS, AAAI, and the Conceptual Modeling Conference (ER), as well as renowned information systems conferences like ICIS, ECIS, and HICSS. We also present our results at prominent exhibitions such as Hannover Messe, Tage der Digitalen Technologien (BMWK), Automation (VDI), and others, bridging the gap between cutting-edge research and practical applications.
In addition, our work is published in influential journals such as Communications of the ACM, Electronic Markets Journal, Journal of the AIS (JAIS), Data & Knowledge Engineering (DKE), and Decision Support Systems (DSS), ensuring global impact and dissemination to both academic and professional audiences.
