Wolfgang Maass is full professor and chair in Information and Service Systems (ISS), faculty of Business Administration, Saarland University, Germany. Previously he led the division Smart Products at the Institute of Technology Management (ITEM) at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. He was university lecturer at the University of St. Gallen and professor of media and computer science at Hochschule Furtwangen University where he led the Intelligent Media research group (RCIM). His field of research are information systems including Ubiquitous Information Systems (UIS) with a focus on smart products, Internet of Things, intelligent information systems, conceptual modeling, electronic knowledge markets, and paid content. He studied Computer Science at the RWTH Aachen and the Saarland University. His PhD in Computer Science at the Saarland University was funded by the German National Science Foundation (DFG). End of 2007 he was awarded with a habilitation by the Department of Management at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. He was guest researcher at the National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis (NCGIA), UC Santa Barbara, CA, USA and guest professor at the Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology (MD Anderson Cancer Center), University of Texas, TX, USA. Beside his research activities, he worked as a consultant for international Diebold Management Consulting, was CEO of a start-up company for several years, and still is active co-founder of University spin-offs.
